Title: Running rich - carb tuner in SE suburbs Melb?
Post by: FickleLife on June 12, 2019, 06:38:58 AM
My 66 302w 600cfm holly 1850-2 is running rich. I'm not too experienced with carbs, I'm largely going off youtube videos. I have replaced the needles and pulled the primary bowl as I was going to replace the jets (size 66 factory standard, had a pair of 64s to lean down) and it had 62s in it. Not wanting to make it richer with 64/66s, it must be something else... not sure what the best path is to take now....

Can anyone recommend someone SE suburbs melbourne who can tune it?

I haven't been there myself but have always heard good things about this place.

Chevs works on classic and modern vehicles, from engine builds to tuneups and has a chassis dyno onsite so that he can dial your carby in.  Has worked on my mustang and a few others I know of, top work.

Another option is Hallam Performance - https://www.facebook.com/pg/hallamperformance/reviews/?ref=page_internal (https://www.facebook.com/pg/hallamperformance/reviews/?ref=page_internal)

I had a problem with my 65 and Andrew was very quick to diagnose it, very quick to do the work, and very reasonable price.

Your should have fitted a new power valve and not changed the jets .

Another recommendation for Chev's at Carrum Downs.

Yup, a bad (leaking) power valve will cause a rich condition, especially at idle.

Why do you think it is running rich?

+2 for power valve.
