The iconic Chevrolet Camaro pony car will fill the V8 void in Holden showrooms next year, almost five years ahead of schedule and ahead of the next generation flagship Corvette sports car due in 2020.

Holden is preparing to import the Camaro SS and have it converted to right-hand-drive in Melbourne by its longstanding performance-car partner Holden Special Vehicles.

Although the Mustang and Camaro compete head-on for price in the US, the Chevrolet is likely to be at least $20,000 dearer than the Ford.

Camaro pricing is yet to be confirmed but dealers have been given an indicative cost of between $80,000 and $90,000 on the road about the same as a HSV Clubsport with a choice of six-speed manual or eight-speed auto.

Dodge is also said to be considering building the next generation Charger SRT sedan and Challenger coupe in right-hand-drive from the factory

This is great now we will have the choice of two modern day yank muscle cars, which one will I get?, the ugly one or the incredibly ugly one?. You pick which is worst.

As soon as the Princess say the Blue Camaro in SaturdaysDaily, she said "Thats what is replacing the SS Bogandore". Then i told her what the price will be and she said "They can stick the Camaro up their arse".
What is wrong with GM that they wouldnt bring the Camaro in at a competitive price with the Mustang?
The sales tell you that Ford did the right thing.
So now we wait for the Challenger. Drove one in Hawaii and loved it. Price it right and the 4 door Charger will sell well, once the Falcons & Commodores are gone from the showroom floor.

Short-sightedness of their development teams.

Previous gen. Camaro was based off Commodore platform that could do LHD & RHD but they didn't do any in RHD.

Latest gen. Camaro back to LHD only.

Years ago they were talking about bringing a RHD Corvette to Aus. and scrapped the plan, thinking the market wouldn't take to it, heads are probably rolling right now.

Mustang will be winning for a while yet.

I also drove a Challenger; across the US and loved it! More interior room than a Mustang and Camaro too, you could fit three adults in the back, though uncomfortably.

yeah, interesting approach - but they need to do something if they want to halt to tide of Mustangs.
Reminds me of when FTE did the 01/02 Cobra conversions, same sort of price but it fell over once the 'fans' had got theirs, mind you I would think the Camaro is likely to be a more sophisticated donor/starter vehicle than the end-of-line Cobra was...

I don't think they'll 'halt the tide', it's a case of, 'shut the gate, the horse has bolted', excuse the pun.

Now their best case is to capture the audience that don't want a Mustang and are prepared to pay a 20k premium for something else.

Dodge will be more effective at halting the tide if their price is comparable.

A lot of kids will disagree, Bumblebee has become an icon among their generation.

Don't know if this is correct but was told today the Camaro will be here no sooner than 2 years   They are going to wait for the new model in the USA 2018 release , then a good 12 mths from then .
