Availability of power window motors in Australia?
« on: October 02, 2019, 01:59:50 AM »
Hi guys
I was testing my elec windows in the Galaxie before installing them and two are kaput!

Are there any people who rebuild original Ford 3-wire electric window motors in Australia?

Were they ever used in any Australian Fords?

Failing that - anyone know of a source for aftermarket items like these?

You probably already know of this supplier - https://concoursparts.com/ - you could contact them to see if they know of a source (in the USA I know).

Would a Thunderbird power window motor work? The seller above has Tbird ones for $250 USD.

PL & PM LTD look the same.
Maybe xc falcon but not sure on the falcon.
They should be easy to fix there is not much in them.

How did you test them, more often and not its the brushes that are worn, worth removing the outer cover and checking the brushes.

There is continuity between the up/down fields but nothing on the "ground" connector.
Most likely brushes. I've put them in for a strip and quote for repair, if it's not too expensive I'll get the fronts done too and then they're all good.

So - the quote is back. $150/motor for a strip and repair.
Likely to be bushes plus bearings, turn the commutator and some other crap.
I'm going to take the other two (working) motors in for a rebuild too ($75/each) just so all 4 are known quantities.
A PITA because the seller said all 4 motors were tested good but that's the breaks I guess....

Even that these are simple motors, $150 is reasonable considering the time it takes to replace the bearings or bushes, skimming the commutator is something that has to be done right, removing too much copper can cause high impedance issues and cleaning between segments is essential, but just a light skim is generally OK.
