I just checked the TV guide when I logged on after a hard day renovating and couldn't believe my luck, just enough time to finish a bit of browsing along with my beer and hit the TV.

Steve McQueen was 38.when he made Bullitt and died when he was 50. . . . too young.

It’s the 50th Anniversary of that ground-breaking film and there are some good things on Bullitt out at the moment.  For instance, in the April 2018 issue of Classic and Sports Car magazine, there’s a great article titled ‘Bullitt: Fabulous at 50’ and some great shots of the camera mounted on the bonnet of the ‘Stang for close ups of McQueen. Interesting story of how Bullitt the film was developed.  Yup, it’s a Pommy mag and they show the way better than their US stablemates.

BTW, on topic, I read many years ago now, in another Pommy car mag that they reckoned the ‘Stang was powered by a 289.  That’ll get peoples attention.  But I wonder why that the current owner of the Bullitt ‘Stang hasn’t shown the engine yet, important part of the car one would think and the way the car takes off from the jumps, it jumps nice and horizontal unlike the Charger in which the nose comes crashing down, obviously a huge 440 lump.  The ‘Stang does look lighter than a 390 lump of metal but it cannot be true surely !!

I always thought the 68 BULLITT mustang was a doggy 390 . It was  a stock std engine that was just a pig with no HP ,so they had to give a a big go over to get it going and smoke the single wheel spinning diff . No 289 for it .  Don't forget a mustang weighs around 3,300 lbs and the charger about 4,300 lbs .

If you put a ford 390 truck engine in a crappy, thin, tin body it will go well too.   :bolt:

Thanks Stephen

No problems, it's been a long time since I watched it all the way through, the last few times I only catching bits of it, either starting part way through or having to shut it down early due to being a work night, lol.

Oh and Robert Vaughan kept reminding me of Matt LeBlanc for some reason, hahaha, must be all the Top Gear I've been watching lately.

Rob ,700 released in Australia and I think they sold for around $80k drive away depending on what state you lived in . I’m not 100% sure on that price tho .
