Back spacing for best wheel fit
« on: January 10, 2018, 07:51:28 AM »
G'day again all.

Next is wheels for my 70'
I'm stuck between the tried and tested 15' centreline or Cragars which will give it the tuff, fat muscle stance.
Or, a bit bigger with 18' and more along the lines of a set of FOOSE rims and a lower profile.
Completely different wheels, I know.

What kind of back spacing will I be needing for the back rims to give me the best dish?

I had 18s on my last 70 and they looked a bit big I thought .  A 15 with a tall tyre 27 or 28 inch looked tough .  4.5 backspace is normal . I fitted a 66 mustang 9 inch to give the wheels more outside  dish . The 70 diff is 59 1/4 inches  wide  and the 66 is 57 1/4 so an extra inch dish on the outside dish on rims . A 275/60x15 looks good . You need to test fit before you buy . My old 70 had 15x8.5 deep dish Centerline auto drags for 20 years and they looked great ,and a 10 would have fitted just .

You can also measure how much clearance you currently have inside & out and then go from there.

Most wheels have the sizing & offset stamped/cast on the back of the rim.  If not, it's easy to work out.

Cheers Glenn,
Trying to get wheels and tyres sorted before she heads off for suspension, so they get the right stance.

I can fit a 18X10 with +18 offset (285/35/18R) on the rear and easily a 18X8 with 0 offset at the front......maybe more
