I have seen one of the XY Fairmonts before but I have not seen a Chevrolet SS like this before. Love it.

I cant believe some of the cars Australia exported in the 70s, Check out this Mazda Road pacer (HOLDEN HJ 1974) with a twin rotor 1.3-litre 13B rotary engine in it.

in Thailand, we spotted this Bogandore.

Plenty of those in Europe as Opels and just like in the pic, the grilles just don't fit properly. I also noticed a lot of Opel Geminis.

Originally Holdens that went to SA were Holdens, and were advertised as being suitable for SA as they were built to suit tough Australian conditions. The Chev badging came about due to  the Australian governments stand on Apartheid, Holden thought there would be a back lash to the Oz brand name and loose sale, so they put Chev badges on them and altered the look.

The article goes into the whole apartheid thing. From what I gathered, the Holden HT Monaro 308 GTS was exported and sold in S.A as a Holden Monaro GTS whereas the Chevrolet SS was the Holden shell assembled in S.A and fitted with a Chev. regalia & drivetrain. All SA cars had front white reflectors & rear red reflectors added.

From another source: the Chevs & the Holdens were sold side by side for several years in SA, but through different dealership networks.  In similar fashion to the USA, where Pontaic, Chev, Buick etc. all had separate networks, in SA they had one lot selling say Chev & Vauxhall, while the other sold Opel & Holden etc.

They sold Holdens (both fully imported & locally assembled) from FB to HT (& maybe HG) & they sold Chevs from HK to HJ.

They sure did, check this out, have you heard this tune before?

I believe the original was Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet which we ripped off for our Holden ads.

When I lived in South Africa I had a XY Fairmont GT as my everyday car and ran straight pipes just for the pure sound of it.
Used to try and recreate the pic of heading down the Hume at top speed while on the Hwy to Sun City, power steering in those cars are scary at that speed.
