Carburetor advice please
« on: December 11, 2017, 02:15:58 PM »
Hello Gents,

After some advice on what size carburetor to run on a 390 FE engine with a new Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake Manifold.

Would a 650 cfm Holley double pumper do the job or try a 750 cfm with the upgraded mainfold?

Thanks in advance, Dave  :thumb:

Is the engine stock or mildly built ir a drag racer?

A 650 single pumper vac secondary is fine for a near stock 390 engine and you might run the optional white secondary spring that you get in a spring kit. A 428 cobra jet had a 735.

Maybe a 670 Holley street avenger vac sec . Then with a lighter Spring .  If it's a manual then maybe a 650 DP .

Pretty average quality carb unfortunately and I wouldn't use one on a 390 for sure.

What's wrong with a 670 Holley ? . I had one on my 347 for years  with no problems and have one on my 351 and it's good also even tho it's a bit big maybe .

if your running a dual plane manifold as I expect with the complete divider and no open spacer then your exposing half the carbi,s flow potential to the ports hence you can/should run a larger carbi.
