Mustang 2017 ecoboost Rattle (ting ting) noise
« on: November 20, 2017, 05:59:52 PM »
I own a 2017 mustang ecoboost.

When i hit the accelerator halfway or more sometimes i hear what sounds like a tapping noise or marble in a tin rattling around(worst case) or something link a ' ting ting' tapping sound under the hood. It appears to be on the drivers side.

It occurs just after hitting the accelerator. I encourage everybody with a mustang ecoboost to safely check if theirs does the same. It may occur more when cold but still happens when warmed up. Does anybody have any suggestions ?

Thanks for your help.

Hey thanks. I have used 98 5 times in a row. Still got the noise. Read that E95 may help but it has not. My wife videoed the following while i drove the car. Sound can be heard 7 seconds into the video. Turn up the volume. Thanks .

When driving and accelerating at the the same time. Just came back from Ford and they have no idea but they recognise there is a problem. I have booked another appointment in 3 weeks for them but feel I need to come to the party with ideas. THanks

When driving. Been thinking about hitting it in idle as well. Will try.

My mate had similar sound in his engine once so he gave it a big rev to see if it goes away. It didn't but created a major electrical fault......Number one conrod took out the alternator....... :bolt:

Noise coming from under bonnet when drivers hit the accelerator when the car is in motion.

Stray spark ? check it out in the dark  - dodgy coil pack, earth strap missing or needed -- just a wild guess

Two observations - not many of us would have ecoboosts so drawing from a small knowledge bank. If the dealer's computer can't log a fault it could be just something loose.

Get a cheap mechanic's stethoscope (like a doctor's but with a probe rod at the receiving end). Bonnet up, have someone give it a rev while checking everywhere for the noise. Keep the probe away from the serpentine belt.

ok - the cadence of that is too slow for it to be a major issue - it's not detonation, or a mechanical (lifter, cam chain, conrod) type issue - it's probably inside the cabin, possibly wiring (or like the guy in the SuperCheap advert) something loose under the dash...
